TALK Framework

Purpose

Our overriding aim is to promote a supportive culture of learning and patient safety in clinical settings. To that effect we designed the TALK framework in June 2014.

The purpose of this tool is to promote guided reflection within clinical teams as a way to improve and maintain patient safety, increase efficiency and to contribute to a supportive culture of dialogue and learning, which would in turn enhance staff wellbeing.

Key elements to achieve this include:

Early identification of system errors and potential untoward events

  1. Recognition and encouragement of successful strategies and behaviours

  2. Improved communication at a multi-professional level

To complement this tool we have designed Learning to TALK: An education and training programme led by multi-professional champions. It focuses on early identification of system errors and potential untoward events, recognition and encouragement of successful strategies, behaviours and communication.
